When posting comments, be sure to type your name first. For this collaboration, I want you to type here any arguments that you find in the documents we are reading. Also, if you find an interesting way to use evidence, you may post that here as well. See the sample below for the type of comments that I am looking for.
Document 4 makes the argument that we should not judge Columbus too harshly because the civilizations that were destroyed as a result of his visit were far from noble or innocent.
ReplyDeleteDocument 5 suggests that the Columbian Exchange brought variety to everyone's diet. I wonder what it did to the population of Europe in the century after contact.

Aaron. For Document 5 the argument is that if you put down Columbus, you put down the entire Renaissance. Document5 also makes the argument that going to the knew world was an inevitable thing. Document 4 makes an argument that Columbus's discovery was the best thing since the birth of Christ. Document 4 also makes an argument that the Europeans were more superior than the Native Americans. Document 6 makes the argument it is not good that good to celebrate Western Civilization. Document 6 also makes the argument that Columbus didn't want the Native Americans to exist.
ReplyDeleteIn document 4 the author says that what Columbus did was the most important things since the birth of Christ. I disagree that it was one of the most important things since Christ was born, but it was important. Document 4 also says that Europeans were superior because they protested treatment of Indians.
ReplyDeleteDocument 5 says that "if you put down Columbus you put down the Reniasance." It also states that when we celebrate Columbus's acheivements we celebrate our civilazation.
In Document 6 the author says that to celebrating Columbus is to ignore history. The author also points out that the world is now filled with people who don't care about nature, but for a quick buck or two

ReplyDeleteDocument4 said that Columbus's important thing was that he brought all the tribes together and the tribes could not even communicate.
Document5 said that Columbus destroyed the Incan civilzation, which was a good thing because their society was brutal, dictatorial, and inefficient.
Document6 said that Columbus didn't discovery America, the native americans discovered America first and that we shouldn't celebrate Columbus Day. If we celebrate Columbus Day, we would ignore the history that Native American discovered America.

Tyler Rainear-In document 4 they say that Columbus finding America was the most important thing since the birth of Christ. Then again in document 4 they make an argument saying that the bringing of the Western civilization to a bunch of scattered tribes is the most. In document 4, people like author Kirkpatrick Sale would like us to believe that all Indians were peaceful and loving. In document 4 it says that Indians were plenty cruel. In document 5 it says if you put down Columbus you put down the Renaissance. In document 6 they are saying to ignore history and celebrate Columbus. In document 6 they are also saying we should honor the Native Americans.
ReplyDeleteDocument 4:Legacy is positive
ReplyDeleteNo one is perfect. Especially not the NA(Native Americans) who had so many tribes because they couldn't communicate with each other. Europeans not only cruel. Si were NA. Aztecs sacrificed humans so demons wouldn't leap the sky.
Document 5:Voyages should be celebrated
Were celebrating our civilization when cerebrating Columbus.
Document 6:Voyages should be protested
Columbus brought disease and death with him and his crew when he came across the seas. NA still struggling today with all the bad things whites are doing
